Digvesh Rathi, the Lucknow SuperGiants bowler turned on the heat on the game yesterday after dismissing SRH opener Abhishek Sharma. The bowler celebrated the power hitter’s wicket by doing the notebook celebration and went on to argue with the batsman.
The two players had an heated argument with the on field umpire and fellow players intervening, Digvesh continued to sign Sharma to step out of the field. The interaction on field obviously is a bitter reflection on fair play and sportsmanship with the IPL governing council now handing one match suspension for Digvesh.
The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) found Digvesh breaching the IPL Code of Conduct for the third time in the 2025 season thus also fined the bowler 50% of his match fee, on top of his suspension against Gujarat Titans.
‘This was his third Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to Three Demerit Points he had accumulated earlier – One Demerit Point against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025 and Two Demerit Points against Mumbai Indians on April 04, 2025’, read an IPL T20 Statement.
Suspension of a player for a match will be possible only if the said player has Five Demerit Points in a single season, which Digvesh Rathi has accumulated so far and a Level 1 breaches of code of conduct are umpires’ decision solely.
SRH star player Abhishek Sharma is also fined 25% of his match fees for involving and escalating the on field incident. This is Sharma’s first Level 1 offense so far while he also now has one Demerit Point, from Monday’s game.
