IndiGo stated on the social media platform X that continuous rainfall in Mumbai is currently impacting air traffic and causing delays in flight operations. Some flights are being held back due to congestion in the airspace. The airline assured that their teams are working closely with air traffic control to resume normal operations as soon as conditions improve.
Mumbai has experienced heavy rainfall for the fourth straight day, resulting in waterlogging in the city’s low-lying areas. On Monday alone, the city recorded over 177 mm of rainfall within six to eight hours.
India Meteorological Department forecast
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several areas, with extremely heavy showers expected at isolated locations in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad through Tuesday. A red alert has been issued for Ratnagiri, while Palghar, Sindhudurg, Aurangabad, Hingoli, Jalgaon, Jalna, Nanded, and Parbhani remain under an orange alert.
The IMD predicts that heavy rainfall will continue in Mumbai on August 19, with sustained showers likely on August 20 and 21 under cloudy conditions.
In response to the adverse weather, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared a holiday for all schools in Mumbai on August 19.
