The Queen of Indian Chess, Koneru Humpy’s calculative win against Lei Tingjei makes way for her to take on fellow Indian GM and prodigy, the 19- year Old Divya Deshmukh in the FIDE Women’s World Cup Finals 2025. For the first time in history, an all Indian face off is happening, ensuring a new Champion from the Indian Chess.

The summit clash between Divya and Humpy on Wednesday after bettering China’s Tan Zhongyi in a slippery semifinal. The 38-year old seasoned Indian WGM will face off against Divya Deshmukh, who is half her age to secure a thrilling championship game and an assured Indian championship.

Koneru Humpy, known for her assertive game play has made a huge comeback in the past year with winning the FIDE World Rapid championship in December 2024, her second title after winning it in 2019. Her comeback after taking a break to focus on her family has been fruitful with now her cruising through to the FIDE Women’s World Cup 2025 finals.
