Though Dhoni scored 30* from only 16 balls which displayed how quickly he could have accelerated, it was argued that his earlier batting may have changed the matchโs outcome.

Former cricketer Robin Uthappa expressed his displeasure on social media by saying, โDhoni coming at No. 9 didnโt make sense at all.โ Irfan Pathan also lambasted this decision arguing that CSK had made a mistake in holding their best finisher back.
A possible motivation for CSK prioritizing MS Dhoni as a lower order batter may have been the net result of his fitness or intentional planning to finish strong in the match. Unfortunately, the plan ultimately did not work for CSK as they struggled to keep up with the required run rate.
