Neeraj Chopra not Happy with the Ostrava Golden Spike Win! ‘I Wish I could have performed Better’

Winning doesn’t always guarantee satisfaction as Neeraj Chopra feels he fell short of his own expectations even after winning the Golden Spike.

Neeraj Chopra, the golden boy of Indian Javelin made history by winning the Gold at his Debut Ostrava Golden Spike. Chopra grew up idolizing and aspiring to have his mark at this tournament had achieved the top win yet feels disappointed with his performance, after throwing 85.29 meters. 

Neeraj’s throw covered the winning mark among the nine athletes field event at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event. “I am not that happy with my performance today, but I am very happy with the trophy I won,” Chopra gathered after winning on Tuesday. 

“I used to watch this meeting a lot as a kid. I watched people like Jan Zelezny and Usain Bolt winning the Golden Spike and I dreamt of winning one as well. Now the dream has come true,” the Indian Olympian said. 

The Two time Olympic Gold Medalist also shared that the popularity of the sport in the Czech Republic and his own personal expectations were not met even after winning the Gold. Chopra recently breached the much expected 90 meter mark in May at the Doha Diamond League and finished second. 

“I know the javelin throw is very popular in Czechia. The amount of support we were getting from the crowd was crazy. I just wish I could have performed better for them.” Chopra had three throws with the first marked off as foul, the second 83.45 meters. The final round also had one foul with 82.17m and 81.01m before. 

The 27 year old athlete recently won the Diamond League in Paris and is looking forward to the NC Classic in Bengaluru on July 5, hoping to retain his pristine form.
