‘Black Warrant’ fame Rahul Bhat is back at Cannes – Screens ‘Lost & Found in Kumbh’

Cannes unwraps its carpet while also welcoming the talents from across the world. India’s Rahul Bhat will be seen in the English language dramedy ‘Lost & Found in Kumbh’.

Actor Rahul Bhat after the magnanimous success of Netflix’s ‘Black Warrant’, playing the grey police warden is now making his debut in English. His next feature titled ‘Lost & Found in Kumbh’ marks his Hollywood Debut with the movie written and directed by Mayur Puri, in his Feature Debut.

Cannes 2025 will be Bhat’s third appearance in the Cannes screen followed by his and Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Ugly’ in 2013 and ‘Kennedy’ in 2023. ‘Lost & Found in Kumbh’ is produced by an LA Based production house Mulberry Films and will have a teaser release on 18 May.

Rahul Bhat is a known face in the Hindi film industry with numerous and notable roles, mostly antagonistic and has now decided on trying a different role. A much lighter role in ‘Lost & Found in Kumbh’, Rahul Bhat will be playing a London returning Professor who visits his father with his British wife and son. The father goes missing in the Kumbh while Bhat’s character also gets lost resulting in a dramatic, emotional and comedic entanglement.

“For a change, somebody offered me a dramedy. All the time, people were only giving me these dark, very serious, violent roles. So I thought, okay, let me do something interesting in English”, Bhat told Variety. ‘Lost & Found in Kumbh’ is said to be a lighthearted dramedy and is described as“It’s not to be taken too seriously” by Bhat .

Mayur Puri shot the film on live location at the Maha Kumbh earlier this year, which is said to be one of the largest spiritual gatherings of the world, attracting millions of devotees to Prayagraj where the three Holy rivers confluence. An extreme challenge for the makers for sure as the rare event that is said to be occurring once in 144 years surges hundreds of millions of people in one place.

“It was really tough. It was so hot and so many people, but interesting,” recalls Bhat who also shared that the production team and the government of Uttar Pradesh helped them in planning the shoot while also sharing his acting nuances of working in a live and crowded location calling it an immersive experience.

The movie is produced by Rashaana Shah, Cristy Coors Beasley and Namrata Sharma while the ensemble cast includes Rahul Bhat playing Maddy, British TV actress Katie Amess playing Cherry, Rajshri Deshpande as Sherry, Jordy Cass and Abhisar Puri playing
