Unsurprisingly Sanju Samson, the Wicketkeeper Batsman and the captain of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League went for the highest bid in the Kerala Cricket League second season. Sanju Samson missed the inaugural year bid but made his debut in the KCL auction for this year.
Kochi Blue Tigers have bought the star player for a whopping Rs. 26.80 Lakh price which is their budget, having high stakes for the player and the team for the coming season. Vishnu Vinod, who was part of Punjab Kings was the second sought after player with the bid of Rs.12.80 Lakh on the opening bid, purchased by Kollam Sailors, the defending champions.
The Kochi Blue Tigers and Thrissur Titans went in with a heavy pocket for the season 2 auction as the franchises have not retained any of their players. The six teams – Kochi Blue Tigers, Kollam Sailors, Thrissur Titans, Calicut Globstars, Trivandrum Royals and Alleppey Ripples had a total of Rs. 50 Lakh in their purse.
Trivandrum Royals bid the third highest purchase of former IPL seamer Basil Thampi for Rs. 8.4 Lakh while Sachin Baby, the Kerala Ranji Trophy Captain was retained by the Kollam Sailors.
IPL breakout player Vignesh Puthur was retained by the Alleppey Ripples along with the opener Mohammed Azharudeen. Rohan S Kunnummal, the Calicut Globstars skipper was also retained along with Salman Nazir.
The Kerala Cricket League season 2 organized as a T20 League by the Kerala Cricket Association will commence from 22 August to 7 September 2025. While Sanju Samson was rumored to be transferred to Chennai Super Kings for the coming IPL season, the news of him playing his debut season in KCL is making headlines.
