Tamil cinema has several multi hyphenated actors who excel in their own fields and mostly give some breakthrough hits once in a while that announces their true potential. One such actor director is Sasikumar who is known mostly for his rural centric films which are all celebrated.
His recent films especially ‘Ayothi’ and ‘Tourist Family’ have received critical response from the public with Sasikumar delivering memorable performances in a mature role. Fans are already relishing in the delightful and wholesome presentation of ‘Tourist Family’ directed by debutant Abhishan Jeevinth that is about a immigrant family who escapes the cusps of famine and inflation from Sri Lanka and reaches Tamil Nadu. Sasikumar plays the patriarch of the family, a kind hearted and compassionate man. The film is certainly rewarded as it continues to pull a full crowd after its release on 1 May.
Sasikumar has his hands full with ample projects lined up with terrific actors and directors. Here are his upcoming movies that are not to be missed.
Freedom
Titled ‘Freedom’ the movie is directed by Sathyasiva who is collaborating with Sasikumar for the second time after their 2022 film ‘Naan Mirugamaai Maara’. Sasikumar will act along with actress Lijomol Jose known for ‘Jai Bhim’, ‘Gentlewomen’, ‘Ponman’ and others. The movie is said to be a periodic prison break film that has the two actors playing Sri Lankan refugees.
My Lord
Director Raju Murugan known for his compulsive stories like ‘Joker’, ‘Cuckoo’, ‘Mehandi Circus’ among others has wrapped the filming of ‘My Lord’ with Sasikumar and actress Chaitra Achar in the prominent roles. The movie is shaping up to be a promising project with an interesting first look.
Untitled Projects
- One untitled and in progress project is Sasikumar, Bharath and Sathyaraj starring in a movie directed by fresh talent M Guru. The movie follows the story of three individuals with one being bold, compassionate and courageous, said the director who wrapped the first schedule in Chennai and plans to shift further to Thanjavur.
- Untitled Periodic Film that will be directed and starred by Sasikumar himself was revealed during his promotion for ‘Tourist Family’. The actor while talking with Galatta Plus shared that he has written a periodic village movie and is expected to film it from 2026.
Sasikumar also has a couple of movies releasing soon – ‘Naa Naa’ (Directed by N.V. Nirmal), ‘Pagaivanuku Arulvai’ (Directed by Anees) and one releasing on Friday, 9 May ‘Evidence’ (Directed by Ranjith Manikandan). There is also a strong buzz that Sasikumar is in talks for leading the hit Amazon Prime series ‘Vadhandhi’ for its second season which is yet to be confirmed.
