The Jammu to Srinagar Vande Bharat route has finally turned one of India’s most talked-about rail dreams into a daily travel option. For passengers, pilgrims, students, traders and tourists, this is not just another train launch. It cuts a tough mountain journey to about 4 hours and 50 minutes, connects Jammu Tawi directly with Srinagar, and brings Kashmir’s rail map closer to the national high-speed network. 

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off the extended service on April 30, 2026, while regular commercial runs begin from May 2, 2026. The big highlight is simple: Jammu to Srinagar in nearly 5 hours, without the earlier break at Katra.

What Has Changed On The Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Route?

Earlier, the Vande Bharat service ran between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar. The new extension takes it up to Jammu Tawi, making the journey far easier for passengers arriving from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and other northern states. According to official railway communication, the service has also been upgraded from 8 coaches to 20 coaches to handle higher demand. Timings, Train Numbers And Stops Passengers Should Know

The route will have 4 Vande Bharat services, counted as 2 pairs: 26401/26402 and 26404/26403. The main stops are Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Reasi and Banihal. Train 26401 leaves Jammu Tawi at 6:20 AM and reaches Srinagar at 11:10 AM. Train 26403 departs Jammu Tawi at 1:20 PM and reaches Srinagar at 6:00 PM. From Srinagar, train 26404 leaves at 8:00 AM and arrives at Jammu Tawi at 12:40 PM, while 26402 leaves Srinagar at 2:00 PM and reaches Jammu Tawi at 6:50 PM.
