India’s finest mind masters Praggnanandhaa and Gukesh D faced each other in Round 1 which ended in a draw, after Pragg even sacrificed his queen for a crucial move and Gukesh having an upper hand at one point. Praggnanandhaa somehow managed to show resilience and get hold of the game, directing it towards a draw. Speaking on going against Pragg, Gukesh D said, “It’ll be an interesting game for sure. He’s a great player and we have played (together) a lot. Just going to try and give my best”.
The tournament kicked off with 5 face offs and 2 players registering a win for each with Round 1 had two white pieces wins by players Alireza Firoujza who pulled out a tactical move in an all French face off, that resulted with him as the victor against Maxime Vachier – Lagrave. “I prepared a lot for this tournament and I’m very motivated to win this tournament,” said Alireza Firoujza who won.
