Virat Kohli tells BCCI to be relieved of Test Cricket before the England Tour

Indian Cricketer Virat Kohli has apparently had a talk with BCCI about his retirement from the Test Format, creating ruffles with the Board.

Former Indian Skipper Virat Kohli discusses retirement from Test formats with the BCCI, which the top officials have been asking for reconsideration of his decision, says several reports.

“He has made up his mind and has informed the board that he is moving on from Test cricket. The BCCI has urged him to rethink as the crucial England tour is coming up. He is yet to revert on the request,” said the sources from the Indian Express.

Virat Kohli known for his monumental achievements across formats is said to have been contemplating the decision from the last Border – Gavaskar Trophy held in Australia where he also registered a century. While BCCI is contemplating relieving Kohli, the news comes right after Indian Opener Rohit Sharma announced his successful Test Run.

Virat stepping down from the Test squad will also mean the board has to find a skipper to lead the team in England. The five test series will have to be led by some of the younger players with Punjab’s talented batsman Shubman Gill leading the race for the next captain spot.

The England Series will kick off The World Test Championship (WTC) on 20 June 2025 and the Indian Squad is yet to be curated by the selection panel headed by Ajit Agarkar. The Middle Order of the Indian squad is sinking with the top and the latter positions are sorted with the likes of KL Rahul, Yashaswi Jaiswal and Rishab Pant.

Virat has 123 Test matches under his belt with several feathers in his cap decorating his achievements heaping 9,230 runs. His performance was criticised in the last 3 years with only 3 hundreds and runs not over 2000. Virat has already announced his retirement from the T20s and has been only playing the IPL for RCB.
