JioHotstar Launched: The Merger of JioCinema and Disney+Hotstar With Subscription Plans

JioHotstar provides a mixture of diversity in content and cost effectiveness in terms of subscription plans, reversing India's streaming landscape with a merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar.

Reliance’s JioStar has launched a brand new streaming platform – JioHotstar, the latest combination of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar aiming at taking the number one spot in India’s streaming market with over 50 crore users and over 3 lakh hours of content library. With a mix of both domestic and international content that includes productions from Disney, NBCUniversalโ€™s Peacock, Warner Bros, Discovery HBO and Paramount, JioHotstar is set to change the way digital entertainment unfolds.

The three subscription formats introduced by JioHotstar:

Mobile Plan: Rs 149 for 3 months or Rs 499 for a year. An ad-supported plan allows content on one mobile device.

Super Plan: Rs 299 for 3 months or Rs 899 for a year. An ad-supported plan allows access on 2 devices-mobile, web and supported living room devices.

Premium Plan: Rs 299 a month, Rs 499 for 3 months or Rs 1,499 for a year. An ad-free service, allowing access on up to four devices.

One aspect unique to JioHotstar is this โ€˜free accessโ€™ model, where every month users get to enjoy limited content for free, except for Hollywood films. The platform promises ultra HD 4K, multi angle viewing, AI-generated insights and real time statistics overlays on sports content like IPl, WPL and major ICC events.

Existing Disney+ Hotstar subscribers can convert easily to JioHotstar with no changes to their plans, whereas JioCinema Premium users will by default be carried over to JioHotstar Premium.
