Air India flight headed London crashes after Take Off in Ahmedabad – No Fatality reported yet of 242 Onboard

A deadly crash reported in Ahmedabad shows a flight headed towards London lowering and crashing after take off. 247 passengers status yet to be confirmed.

An Air India flight 171 heading for London met with a fatal crash right after take off in Ahmedabad, India. The flight which took off on Thursday, 12 June afternoon crashed near the airport in the Meghani area. 

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) revealed that the flight bound for London had 242 people on board 230 passengers, 2 pilots, and 10 cabin crew members. The flight was under the command of two pilots – Captain Sumit Sabharwal and co-Pilot Clive Kunder. 

The crash immediately caught the attention for emergency action after a heavy black cloud surrounded the place. The plane fueled heavily gearing for a long journey contributed even more for the massive crash and the subsequent fire. 

The rescue operations were assigned immediately with the nearby roads closed for civilians and several fire engines and ambulances rushed to the spot. There is no information about casualties and the DGCA has informed to expect a format investigation along with a possible professional team from Boeing. 

133 passengers have reportedly been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment and medical attention. The unfortunate crash doubled in grief as the flight was reported to have crashed on BJ Medical College hostel which had 50- 60 doctors, on their lunch break. Devastating scenes and snaps from the ground shows the canteen trashed and black from the smoke.

Air India also released an official statement regarding the crash, “Air India confirms that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident today after take-off. The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals.” 

The injured and harmed were immediately taken to the nearby hospitals, the statement said. While the fatal incident has shook the country, the process of safely rescuing the passengers and the injured civilians is of ultimate focus.
