Amazon has discharged an email to its subscribers, revealing that the Prime Video Content will include limited advertisements from 17 June 2025. The ads can be removed for the additional fee of 699 INR per year and 129 INR per month along with the Prime Subscription.
The additional amount is said to be a discounted amount as the company initially decided to charge 999 INR per year for ads-free subscriptions. The company also shared that the change will allow them to, “continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time.” The global streaming platform says that viewers would see “meaningfully fewer ads than TV channels and other streaming services.”
The full email from Amazon read,
“Dear Prime member,
We are writing to you today about an upcoming change to your Prime Video experience. Starting June 17th, 2025, Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisements. This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than TV channels and other streaming services. No action is required from you, and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership.
We will also offer a new ad free add-on option for an additional ₹699 per year/129 per month* that you can sign up for starting on June 17th 2025.”
Current Prime memberships, which cost Rs. 1,499 per year in India, will remain unchanged in price but will now include advertisements. The Prime subscription includes benefits such as fast delivery options, free shipping, cashbacks on select purchases, and access to other Amazon services including Prime Music, Prime Gaming, and Prime Reading.”
While Amazon Prime subscribers in the US with around 130 Million subscribers for the ad-supported plan. The company has also been collecting ads-free subscription fees in the UK, Germany, US and Canada.
Indian streamers also have a Prime Lite plan for 799 INR that only allows a basic one device limit with the phone streaming limited to 720p resolution. While the company has not disclosed till when the price of Amazon Prime Video Membership plan and the limited ads will begin or available, it is clear that Prime Lite users won’t be getting ads.
