No Stokes, Archer: England and India makes several changes ahead of 5th Test vs India

The fifth test between India and England will conclude the series with important changes for both the sides - Stokes, Archer and Bumrah out.

England skipper Stokes is revealed to be out of the fifth and final test match against India as Ollie Pope will be stepping in as the skipper in The Oval. The handshake controversy between Stokes and Jadeja only fell shorter in comparison to the active news and updates from both the teams ahead of the final match in the Anderson – Tendulkar Trophy.

Stokes will be out of the fifth match because of his shoulder injury and two other changes in the host’s side as pacer Jofra Archer has been seated out after having made his return to Test cricket following a long gap of four years. Along with pacer Brydon Carse is also missing out on the final test.

The England and Wales Cricket Board’s official statement on the changes read, “Captain Ben Stokes is unavailable due to a right shoulder injury. Also missing out are spinner Liam Dawson and pace bowlers Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse. England have included Jacob Bethell, who will bat at No.6. Surrey bowlers Gus Atkinson and Jamie Overton come into the side, along with Nottinghamshire quick Josh Tongue”.

The hosts are leading the series with 2-1 while the visitors have recorded a tie on the fourth test, blocking the hosts from winning the series. The Indian side is also anticipated to be making crucial changes in the squad ahead of the fifth Test as pacer Bumrah might be sitting out the game.

With Rishabh Pant already ruled out of the series due to his leg injury and Dhruv Jurel stepping in as his replacement behind stumps, Kuldeep Yadav could be called in to play with Jagadeesan also on bench as a good option.

Probable England playing XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope (c), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jacob Bethell, Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Jamie Overton, Josh Tongue.

Probable India playing XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (c), Dhruv Jurel (wk) Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh
