Will Bumrah’s rest and Kuldeep Yadav out of the squad cost heavy for India? Social Media and experts criticize the selection

India’s squad for 2nd Test against England has sparked quite the debate from resting Bumrah to the replacements from experts and fans.

India’s performance at Edgbaston for the second Test against England might have been a strong showcase from the batsmen but the debate on Indian team selection is still active online.

India vs England is the talk of the town with England already in the lead with first test win, the 2nd test was expected to have a revised team for a fight and the replacement intention seemed to be positive except for the bowling unit and the focus on deepening the lineup. Bumrah resting for 7 days after the first test and still not in the squad has raised eyebrows with many pointing out his absence and the selection.

Bumrah was spearheading the pace unit and is now replaced by Akashdeep while Siraj is still on the squad. Dropping Bumrah and not having Kuldeep Yadav has caught the fans and experts by surprise who all called it the ‘daftest selection decision’.

Former Cricketers, commentators and fans are having a field day with the debate as to why Bumrah has been given rest while he is the most crucial aspect for the team to get 20 wickets and break the rhythm of the hosts’ batting advantage.

Former Australian Captain Aaron Finch posted, “If Bumrah was fit to play then surely you need to pick the best bowler in the world? At the very least Kuldeep has to be in the XI if you’re worried about taking 20 wickets. Yes, he might be more expensive but he’s the next best attacking option!”

This post echoes the sentiments and thoughts of all the cricket fans who were disappointed with the team’s decision. The decision to store Bumrah for the Lord’s test after losing the first and risking the second with a new shuffle in a five match series is a huge gamble.

Although Kuldeep is a costly bowler, he can be lethal in England pitches, a useful spinner late in the match from his end. “We were tempted to play Kuldeep, but look at the last match, our lower order didn’t do well, so we decided to add some depth to the batting”, said skipper Shubman Gill during the toss.
