Delhi Capitals might lag with Starc refuses to resume IPL 2025 – CA Defends choices

Several Overseas players have shown doubts of returning to IPL 2025 after the political tension that put a pause to the season midway.

Star Australian player Mitchell Starc will not be returning to the IPL 2025 Resumption among other overseas players due to the political unrest that has been ripping the nation’s security for the past few days.

Delhi Capitals could face a huge dip in their lineup as Mitchell Starc will not be returning to his squad for the rest of the season due to safety concerns. Starch along with his wife and Australian skipper Alyssa Healy have returned to Australia while Starc’s manager has revealed the DC player won’t be returning to India for the resumption.

IPL 2025 was suspended midway due to the safety unrest as a result of India and Pakistan’s armed attacks following Pakistan’s fatal terrorist attack on Indian civilians which pushed Indian armed forces to launch ‘Operation Sindoor’, igniting days of exchanging attacks in the borders.

Players out of IPL 2025 Resumption

While the players were deployed safely, the unsettling event led them to fly back to their homes. It was later announced that the IPL will be resuming from 16 May after both the countries have agreed to a Ceasefire that stopped the cross border firing. Still many overseas players won’t be returning to their spots in the IPL 2025 like Jofra Archer, Jos Butler, Jacob Bethell, Marco Jansen and many have left the country.

Mitchell Starc and other Australian players will be backed by Cricket Australia as the board has announced to support their players’ rights and choices, speaking with The Age, with the statement reading, “In that light, this masthead has been told that CA will defend the rights of players to make their own calls about returning to the IPL on a case-by-case basis, taking the view that their decisions should not be held against them for the future”, reports India Today.

Security concerns are not the only reason

While the startling political climate in India a major reason for the players to leave the country, their return is not affected only based on the security concerns as their International schedules are also taking into consideration with many players especially from Australia and England will not be possibly resuming the IPL due to the World Test Championship approaching at the end of June in England.

Preparations for the WTC by the Australian team will be prioritised while English players will be recruited for county cricket as a part of their preparation. It is also reported that seasoned players like Ricky Ponting have advised their franchise squad to return for the rest of the season amidst the country going through a cooling period post the Ceasefire. IPL 2025 still has 13 league matches, 3 Play Off games and a Final culminating to a total of 17 games in residue.
