First Indian President to visit Sabarimala Temple – President Draupadi Murmu plans to trek in May

One of the most visited and holy sites of Hinduism is the Sabarimala in Kerala and is expected to have President Draupadi Murmu in May.

President Draupadi Murmu may visit the Sabarimala temple in Kerala in May during the Edava Masam Pooja. Ahead of the President’s potential visit, the Ayyappa temple authorities were contacted to ensure safety and health checks of Murmu’s trek and darshan. 

The 15th President of India if visits the Sabarimala Temple will become the first President ever to visit the temple and darshan in India. Reports from Rashtrapati Bhavan indicate that President Draupadi Murmu is planning the trek to darshan the deity in May during the small window of time when the temple is open for special pooja. The Thiruvananthapuram Devaswom board was notified of a possible visit and was discussing accommodation and other planning. 

The Sabarimala Devasthanam is usually secured well with Police and guards assisting the needy. With the next set of Edava Masam Pooja days approaching the security will be even more tightened. The president’s nursing superintendent also spoke with the Devaswom about the trek and planning as Draupadi Murmu will step down from her Helicopter in Nilakkal and start by foot from Pampa to the Sannidhanam. 

Although there is no official confirmation from Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President is expected to be visiting the Sabarimala temple on 17 May, preparations to be in hand for the potential visit advised. During her visit, President Murmu is also expected to add Guruvayur and other holy places in her itinerary. 

According to the reports by Manorama English, Devaswom Board Member A Ajithkumar has informed that there is no official confirmation of her visit yet as there is only informal communications going on. The Sabarimala Devasthanam will be open from 14 to 19 May 2025.
