India’s magnificent monuments standing for centuries are still one of the most visited tourist attractions of India. Here are the top 5 most visited and high revenue generated places.

According to the Ministry of Culture, India’s Top revenue generated tourist monuments in the FY 2023 – 2024 are revealed. The revenue is generated through ticket sales by the Architectural Survey of India. The report also includes the footfalls, revenue through year wise distribution over the past five years. Here are the Top 5 Tourist Monuments in India that have generated the highest income in 2023- 2024. 

1. Taj Mahal

One of the most iconic associations with India is undoubtedly the Mughal architectural wonder Taj Mahal. The monument stands with pride as India’s highest revenue source in Tourism and the most profitable monument. Agra’s must visit spot, Taj Mahal has generated INR 98.5 Crore and a footfall of 67,80,215, making the UNESCO World Heritage Site take the top spot. 

2. Qutb Minar

A symbol of victory and valor, Qutb Minar is standing as an asset and as an wondrous monument from A.D 1199, the monument is built by Qutb-Ud-Din Aibak followed by his successors. This tourist spot has generated a revenue of INR 23.8 Crore and has recorded a footfall of 33,43,660 in 2023-24.

3. Lal Qila or Red Fort

Standing at Number 3, the Red Fort, also commissioned by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, is located right at the waterfront of River Yamuna. Red Fort has contributed INR 18 Crore in FY 2023-24 and a footfall of 28,78,260. Built out of Red Stone and Marble, the fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site from 2007.

4. Agra Fort

Stretched across 34 Acres of land, Agra Fort was built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1565. The fort was the primary residence of the Mughal Emperor until the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi. The site is now a popular tourist attraction that has contributed INR 15 Crores in tourism revenue and a footfall of 16,28,541.

5. Konark Sun Temple

Dedicated to the Sun God ‘Surya’, the Konark Sun Temple was built in the 13th Century and is now a UNESCO Heritage Site. Known for its intricate architecture and depiction of the Sun God’s chariot. The site is the fifth highest source of tourist income in FY 2023-24 with a revenue of INR 12.6 Crore and a recorded footfall of 32,01,973.
