In a landmark move aimed at enhancing road travel convenience and reducing toll plaza congestion, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has introduced the FASTag Annual Pass 2025. This new initiative allows private car owners to travel across designated National Highways (NH) and National Motorways (NE) without paying tolls per trip.
Instead, a single payment enables seamless travel for either one year or 200 trips, whichever comes first. Effective August 15, 2025, the scheme is set to improve the overall travel experience, addressing long-standing concerns about toll collection within a 60-kilometre radius of cities and towns.
Price of the FASTag Annual Pass
The FASTag Annual Pass comes at a fixed price of ₹3,000, making it a cost-effective alternative for frequent highway commuters. Once activated, it allows users free passage at NH and NE fee plazas for the duration of one year or up to 200 trips, whichever limit is reached first.
After the pass reaches its limit (either by completing 200 trips or after 12 months from the date of activation), the FASTag will automatically revert to functioning like a regular FASTag. Users can then choose to recharge or reactivate their Annual Pass by paying ₹3,000 again to enjoy the same benefits for the next period.
How to Apply and Activate the FASTag Annual Pass
While the exact activation portals and application methods are expected to be announced closer to the launch date, here’s how the process is structured:
- Eligibility:
Only private non-commercial vehicles, such as personal cars, jeeps, and vans, are eligible for the FASTag Annual Pass. Eligibility is determined through the VAHAN database, which classifies vehicles based on their registration and use type.
Commercial vehicles attempting to use the Annual Pass may face immediate deactivation of the pass without any prior notice. - Application:
Users will likely be able to apply through the official FASTag issuing banks, digital wallets, NHAI websites, and authorized portals or apps. The ₹3,000 fee can be paid online, similar to existing FASTag recharges. - Activation:
Upon successful payment and verification of vehicle type, the FASTag Annual Pass will be activated with either:
- A one-year validity from the date of activation, or
- 200 trips across NH and NE toll plazas, whichever comes first.

When the usage limit is hit, users can recharge their FASTag with another Annual Pass package to continue enjoying toll-free travel.
Which Toll Plazas are Covered Under the FASTag Annual Pass?
The Annual Pass is exclusively valid at National Highway (NH) and National Motorway (NE) fee plazas. This includes major highways governed by the central government where toll collection is standardized and electronically managed.
However, for toll plazas on:
- State highways (SH),
- Roads managed by local authorities, or
- Parking areas using FASTag systems,
The pass will not apply, and regular user fees will be charged. In these locations, FASTag will work as usual, deducting the applicable toll fee from the user’s wallet.
Optional, Not Mandatory
It is important to note that the FASTag Annual Pass is not mandatory. Users who prefer the regular pay-as-you-go model can continue using their FASTags as they do now. This new scheme simply provides an optional benefit for those who commute frequently on national highways and want to streamline toll payments while saving money.
By simplifying toll payments and reducing friction at fee plazas, this initiative stands to benefit millions of private vehicle owners.
