India addresses fake claims of US using Indian bases to launch attack on Iran

The Press Information Bureau’s fact checking unit debunked a rumour circulation of India’s involvement in US attack over Iran.

The Central Government has denied the involvement of India in the attack over Iran by the United States. The Press Information Bureau of India denied the alleged claims on the internet that the US air force used Indian airspace to carry out the strikes on Iran on Saturday during ‘Operation Midnight Hammer.

“Several social media accounts have claimed that Indian airspace was used by the United States to launch aircraft against Iran during Operation Midnight Hammer. This claim is FAKE,” the PIB said, in an official post debunking the viral posts circulating in social media.

Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. Dan Caine’s statement during a press brief was also highlighted by the fact checking body of the Indian government. General Dan Caine clarified that the direction and route used by the US forces during the attack was nowhere near the South Asian path, not India a part of the attack.

While the PIB fact check has denied the rumours, the US bodies and diplomats including President Donald Trump have shared that the attack on Iran as one of the most sophisticated and largest aerial operations in a decade.

Operation Midnight Hammer carried out by the US on Saturday attacked three nuclear sites in Iran – Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Although the now debunked claims have created tension and debate online, Indian Prime Minister Modi has maintained the balanced stance and calls for de- escalation of war tension in the Middle East.
