Thug Life’s Karnataka Release in question – Kamal’s statement continues to smoke

Kamal Hassan during his upcoming movie Thug Life’s promotions made a statement regarding the Kannada language and its origin, creating a restriction and condemnation.

The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has joined the cluster of condemnation against actor and politician Kamal Hassan, as the multi-faceted personality’s comment on the origin of Kannada language still smokes as the Karnataka association demands apology. 

Kamal Hassan who is having a movie releasing on 5 June said in a recent promotion event in Karnataka that “Tamil gave birth to Kannada”, a statement that has now distorted the possibility for the release in Karnataka. 

Directed by Mani Ratnam, ‘Thug Life’ is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has now demanded an apology from Kamal Hassan who insisted to issue an apology within two days and if not the movie will face restriction on release in the state. 

Talking about the issue, M. Narasimhalu, KFCC chairman said, “It’s no longer about a film. It’s about an entire State”, stated The Hindu. The actor’s statement has since spurred condemnation from the Kannada public, BJP for hurting the sentiments of the people. 

“The KFCC stands by the sentiments of the people of Karnataka. Mr. Haasan has to apologise in the next two days for a smooth release of Thug Life in Karnataka. The decision was taken with the backing of distributors and exhibitors along with former presidents of KFCC”, a statement from KFCC held a meeting with members of the Exhibitors’ Association of Karnataka and Distributors’ Association of Karnataka stated.
