According to the Hindu belief, doing this religious pilgrimage of the four Himalayan shrines – Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath is known as The Char Dharm Yatra. Of the four, Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines were closed for 6 months due to harsh weather conditions.

Now as per the official release, the doors of Kedarnath and Badrinath temples will be open from May first week. A spokesperson representing the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) on friday reported that, “This evening, the advance team of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee reached Shri Kedarnath Dham. The doors of Shri Kedarnath Dham are going to open on May 2.”

The portals of Shri Badrinath Temple will open from May 4 while the portals of Shri Madmaheshwar Temple, known as the second Kedar will open from 21 May and the third Kedar , Shri Tungnath Temple will open on 2 May.
The BKTC Chief Executive Officer Vijay Prasad Thapliyal attended a meeting on Monday to decide the date for opening of Shri Madmaheshwar Temple at Shri Omkareshwar Temple, Ukhimath. He was welcomed by Kedar Sabha and was praised for working in coordination with the Tirthpurohits.
