Romain Rolland Library

Present right at the centre of the French colony of South Asia, this library was founded in 1827 as a Bibliothèque Publique and later changed in name and restoration in 1966 to honour the late French Scholar Romain Rolland.

State Central Library, Thiruvananthapuram

The eye catching library is one of the oldest in the country and the oldest in Kerala. The library was built under the reign of King Swathi Thirunal of Thiruvithamkoor in 1892 by Edward Cadogan. The library first had a disparity and allowed only the people who attended the royal darbar but it became public in 1898.

Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Library

One of the national libraries of India and the oldest is built by Khan Bahadur Khuda Bakhsh, who started the library with 4,000 documents for the public in 1891. The library holds some of the best and rare collections of oriental manuscripts in Persian, Arabic and Urdu.

Connemara Public Library

One of the four national depository libraries of India, the Connemara Public Library was founded in 1860 and set by Captain Jesse Mitchell who set a small library inside the Madras Museum.
