India’s Census 2027 has moved into a digital-first phase with the Self-Enumeration portal, allowing households to fill their basic housing and family details online before the enumerator visits. The official portal is se.census.gov.in, and the government has clearly said citizens should use only this portal for Self-Enumeration.
The process is part of the Houselisting and Housing Census phase. After submission, the family receives a Self-Enumeration ID, which must be shown to the enumerator during field verification. PIB said the data is confirmed only after the enumerator verifies it during the visit.
Which States Have The Self-Enumeration Portal Live Now?
As of 29 April 2026, the active Self-Enumeration window includes Bihar and Telangana. Bihar’s window runs from 17 April to 1 May, while Telangana’s window runs from 26 April to 10 May. Punjab opens from 30 April to 14 May, followed by Delhi MCD, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Rajasthan and Jharkhand from 1 May to 15 May.
Other upcoming windows include Uttar Pradesh from 7 May to 21 May, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Puducherry from 17 May to 31 May, Himachal Pradesh from 1 June to 15 June, Kerala and Nagaland from 16 June to 30 June, Tamil Nadu and Tripura from 17 July to 31 July, Assam from 2 August to 16 August, and Manipur from 17 August to 31 August. West Bengal’s schedule is still to be decided. PIB Home Affairs posted that citizens should take part through the Self-Enumeration portal and use only se.census.gov.in.
Documents Needed For Self-Enumeration
No document upload is required for Self-Enumeration. Citizens do not need to upload Aadhaar, PAN, ration card, electricity bill or property papers. A government FAQ says no documents are required for SE.
Still, families should keep correct details ready: head of household name, mobile number, address, number of members, house condition, drinking water source, toilet access, cooking fuel, internet access, vehicles, cereal use and other household information. The Houselisting schedule includes 33 questions, mainly linked to housing, amenities, assets and household profile.
How To Register Your Family In 10 Minutes
Go to se.census.gov.in and choose your State or Union Territory. Login with a mobile number, select the correct location on the map, fill household details, submit the form and save the SE ID. PIB’s official process is: access portal, login using mobile number, identify location on map, fill household details, submit information, receive SE ID, provide it to the enumerator and get data confirmed.
