IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer shuts down justification on IPL price! Social Media campaigns for his spot in the national squad

Ahead of the electrifying IPL 2025, the Punjab skipper who pulled the team towards the final game is getting laurels and earning the support of millions.

It was on the head coach of Punjab Kings, Ricky Ponting’s insistence that the team invested a huge sum of price in pulling Shreyas Iyer and positioned him as the team’s skipper. While post the IPL Auction 2025, there were questions raised by many on the need for Iyer and the massive price paid. And towards the end of the IPL sprint, it is safe to say that Shreyas Iyer has showcased immense talent not just as a batsman but also as a captain.

Now Punjab Kings have broken their 11 year drought period and surpassed the 5 time champion Mumbai Indians to get a spot at top two, aiming for the golden glory. Shreyas Iyer’s role in the team has been vital including the much needed, unbeaten 87 off of 41, which steered the team towards the finals.

Shreyas Iyer IPL Price – Second Highest Bid in IPL History

After KKR dropped their former trophy winning skipper, Iyer was picked by Punjab Kings at the IPL 2025 Auction for a massive price money of 26.75 Crore. He is the second highest bid player in the history of IPL, following Rishab Pant also sold from this year’s auction for 27 Crore.

Iyer is also the first player to lead three different teams into the IPL finals, with his maiden IPL win coming from leading KKR in 2024. His form has been consistent and immaculate since his snub from the BCCI central contract and the drop from Kolkata.

He has been conscious of his captaincy giving signs of matured leadership and also contributing at much needed situations, owning as a team player. He is the highest six hitter for Punjab in 2025, recording 39 sixes this season.

Ricky Ponting, head coach of Punjab Kings shared his insights on Shreyas Iyer, “It was pretty clear with what we did at the auction by bringing Shreyas to this franchise, it was clear to me and the owners that we wanted the best possible Indian captain. We got our man. He’s been terrific around the group,” reports Indian Express. Coming from an outstanding captain, Iyer certainly has shown his potential.

Internet demands justice for Shreyas Iyer

The BCCI recently revealed the squad for the England Test series which unfortunately and unfairly didn’t have any slot for the talented 30 year old. This triggered waves of debate and questions launched towards the BCCI.

Iyer who has been active in the domestic cricket scene has also been nothing short of impressive in the IPL 2025 season too. His absence in the Indian squad for England in hindsight would have contributed for his knock against Mumbai Indians as even Ponting also seemingly recognised the gritty glint in Iyer’s eyes. Talking about the squad selection, Ponting noted that, “Shreyas has done absolutely everything the same as some of those other players. So I was disappointed that he didn’t get picked as I actually felt that he would get picked.” He also stated that the snub has inevitably left Iyer “a little bit hungrier”, as per TOI.

IPL Finals 2025 – Venue, Price Money and Prediction

The IPL 2025 season after disruptions and pauses has now come to the final stage with Punjab Kings facing Royal Challengers Bangalore. Both the team are aiming for their maiden titles in an electrifying game ahead.

  • Venue – Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
  • Time – 7:30 PM

IPL 2025 Final prediction

If RCB maintains the heat and prolongs their stint of success then the possibility of them getting their hands on the starved IPL trophy with the help of the toss is high. While Punjab Kings do have a slightly upper hand as the team chased down a massive total in Ahmedabad earlier this season.

The teams who have won the toss and chosen to bowl first have recorded higher win probabilities. The venue comes in as an advantage for PBKS as the team has played two games in 2025 while RCB last stepped out in Ahmedabad in 2024.
