The Indian Squad for the England Test series is announced with the 25 Year Old Shubhman Gill named the Captain of the team in Whites. BCCI has announced the final squad after careful consideration on Saturday with impressive inclusions and talents scouted to travel to England for a five match test series.
Post the string of retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the Indian team was left with a void and a nation wide debate on who is going to lead the squad in the long format. While Gill was in the whisper from the early stage, names like Rishab Pant and Jasprit Bumrah were also mulled over for the role.Â
Shubman Gill along with a credible batsman has proven to be capable of captaincy with leading the Gujarat Titans. Several former cricketers and experts have been rooting for the youngster to get the role which is a great honor and an even more stressful one to be carrying. Yet Gill has foreshadowed the potential, especially in his recent outings.
The England series is part of the 2025- 27 ICC World Test Championship season. The five match series will be held in England across five venues – Headingley (Leeds), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Lord’s (London), Old Trafford (Manchester) and The Oval (London).
Rishab Pant will be the Vice Captain for the squad while the selectors have opted for a spare Wicket Keeper in the reliable Dhruv Jurel. Crucial Pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been confirmed as fit after the back injury that ruled him out of the Champions Trophy and with him joins the seamers Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur and Arshdeep Singh.
Mohammed Shami missed out due to a leg injury while the pace unit looks solid with Prasid Krishna and Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy in resource. Spin sector has the seasoned all rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar along with Kuldeep Yadav.
The top order is opened by the Skipper and his deputy in that order while the dependable Yashashwi Jaiswal and KL Rahul duo can also now rely on the talented and consistent Sai Sudharshan in the middle order.
The Tamil player has shown incredible form in the running IPL Season scoring and leading with 368 runs is running in the lead for the Orange Cap has been roped in for an important test on his maiden international game.
Arshdeep, yet another talented youngster who has been showcasing potential with the ball, also got his maiden call for the India squad. Among the youngsters is Karun Nair who has, a few times made headlines in discussions for selection is also onboard.
Known famously for his Triple Century in 2016 against England has now secured a place with his remarkable performance in the Ranji Cricket space, scoring 4 centuries and mounting 863 runs and 779 runs with 5 centuries in Vijay Hazare tournament.
