‘Thug Life’ Trailer: Is there a Kamal Hassan vs Simbu Face Off?

Imagine the hype for Mani Ratnam and Kamal Hassan joining for a project after decades and the ‘Thug Life’ trailer delivers all the excitement and more.

‘Thug Life’ from legendary director Mani Ratnam has one of the most stunningly holistic cast and crew who have been crafted to perfection by the maestro himself. The trailer of ‘Thug Life’ dropped on Saturday evening and all the eyes on it with anticipation and judgement were served a feast.

Kamal Hassan in his iconic way narrates the trailer context with the memory of a young boy saving Rangaraya Sakthivel (Hassan) and deservingly earning his trust and love. The trailer juxtaposes the young boy with Simbu who is the right hand of Kamal Hassan in the movie. While the seemingly emotional trailer rises in temperature with more reveals, secrets and unexpected plotlines that are outed by flashing glimpses, cut precisely to tease the fans.

Kamal Hassan vs Simbu?

Although the narration is about Rangaraya Sakthivel and the yet to be revealed character of Silambarasan and their story from when the latter was a literal saving grace for the powerful don, it quickly escalates to be a game of power and inevitably breaks the characters.

While Kamal Hassan’s character was seen dancing and grooving for ‘Jinguchaa’ with Simbu’s, it is clear the animosity between them grew so much so that both the men are having each other’s life hanging at the edge of a cliff and a terrific terrace fight. Do we really get to see a faceoff between Kamal and Simbu in Thug Life? The trailer certainly points in all the right directions.

Characters and Glimpses

Seasoned actor Nasser who looks to be playing a close accomplice of Rangaraya Sakthivel, the power struggle has caught on to him as revealed by his frustrating dialogue. Actress Trisha Krishnan who was seen briefly looks to be playing Rangaraya Sakthivel’s lover while the ‘Virumaandi’ pair also locked lips in a confusing shot that further adds to the mystery behind Kamal Hassan’s character.

Joju George is bloodshot and shoots right at approaching vehicles at the capital while a commotion ensues and Ashok Selvan sported a clean shave, assumedly posed as a cop. Aishwarya Lekshmi was seen in a passing second and the rest of the trailer cut further layers of the face off between the two main characters.

While many curious fans have drawn comparisons of ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Thug Life’ teaser cut, the trailer seems to deviate from the angle the netizens seemingly ‘cracked’. AR Rahman’s musical composition builds up and hypes the projection while ace editor Sreekar Prasad blends the narrative into a juicy meat that the fans cannot wait to feast on.
