In a historic decision, Delhi Capitals have appointed star all rounder Axar Patel as their captain for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The 31 year old player joined the franchise in 2019 and has been a vital role for the team, displaying his all-round ability. Axar has played 82 games for DC, making 967 runs and claiming 62 wickets at an excellent economy rate of 7.09.
Delhi Capitals chairman, Kiran Kumar Grandhi, welcomed the decision with enthusiasm, citing Axar’s transformation from vice-captain to captain, representing the team’s values. Co-owner Parth Jindal also welcomed Axar’s leadership skills, citing the all-rounder’s brilliant form, including his dazzling performances in India’s recent ICC events.

Axar, who has 1,653 runs and 123 wickets from 150 IPL games, thanked the opportunity and said that he was prepared and confident to take charge of the team. He also appreciated the good leadership team in his side, comprising KL Rahul and Mitchell Starc who are likely to offer significant support.
Delhi Capitals will start the 2025 IPL season against Lucknow on March 24, 2025 in Visakhapatnam. The team including new recruits such as KL Rahul will come together for a training camp prior to the start of the season.
