In cricket, the term ‘expensive spell’ refers to a bowler who has been given a high run during their overs against aggressive batters. Because of its reputation for power hitting, the IPL has its share of a lot of expensive spells over the years.Â
The most recent addition to the list of expensive spells occurred in the game between the Rajasthan Royals and the Sunrisers Hyderabad yesterday on 23rd March 2025. In that match, Jofra Archer had a tough time, giving up 76 runs from four overs which is the most runs given up in a spell in history of the IPL.
Archer’s inability to control the runs for the batsmen Travis Head, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen was testimony to how punishing T20 cricket can be for bowlers if they have an off day.
