What Is Farmer ID in India? Registration, Required Documents, Benefits and Status Check Explained

Asked for a Farmer ID while applying for an agricultural scheme? It is an 11-digit digital identity under AgriStack, linked to Aadhaar and verified land records. Registration takes place through state systems, so the process starts with your state’s Farmer Registry.

India completed 11 crore Farmer IDs by the night of 23 October 2026, the Agriculture Ministry announced on 24 October. That puts the rollout five months ahead of its 31 March 2027 target.

Key Highlights

  • Farmer ID connects a verified farmer identity with agricultural land information.
  • An enrolment number tracks an application; it is not the approved Farmer ID.
  • Registration routes and support arrangements depend on the state.

Farmer ID Benefits And The Latest National Update

The government wants farmers to stop submitting the same identity and land documents for every service. Its 24 October announcement identifies bank credit, crop insurance, disaster relief and MSP procurement among the intended uses.

More than 6 crore farmers have already received benefits through Farmer ID-based service delivery, the ministry reported. This describes access across schemes, rather than a new payment available simply for creating an ID.

All India Radio also covered the 11-crore milestone in its official news post on X.

For applicants, the distinction is practical: a verified registry entry can support an application, but the relevant scheme still decides eligibility. Farmer ID is not a land ownership certificate. AgriStack describes land linkages as serving advisory, planning and scheme-delivery purposes.

Documents Required For Farmer ID Registration

For assisted registration, the national Farmer Registry FAQ asks farmers to show Aadhaar details and land records containing survey and sub-survey numbers. Electronic checks apply where states enable self-registration.

Keep these ready:

  • Aadhaar details for identity verification.
  • A working mobile linked to Aadhaar for OTP authentication where required.
  • Land record details, including the village and relevant survey identifiers.

Maharashtra’s official MahaDBT notice specifically directs farmers needing an ID to a Common Service Centre with Aadhaar and their Aadhaar-linked mobile number. It also says land in every village must be linked using the same Farmer ID.

A farmer with plots in two villages should therefore check both holdings, rather than assume the first linked plot completes the record. Bank details requested by a benefit scheme should not be confused with a universal Farmer Registry document requirement.

How To Register And Check Farmer ID Status

Use your state’s official portal. Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra operate separate Farmer Registry websites; avoid entering Aadhaar details on a similarly named private information page.

Where self-registration is available, the broad sequence is:

  1. Select the farmer account option and complete the identity and mobile verification shown.
  2. Review personal details, then locate your agricultural land using the requested location and survey information.
  3. Confirm the correct holdings and complete consent or e-sign as instructed.
  4. Submit the application and retain its enrolment acknowledgement for tracking.

Kerala’s official self-registration manual follows this sequence, including land verification and Aadhaar OTP-based e-sign. Exact screen labels and land-number formats vary, so follow your state’s instructions.

Track Approval And Resolve Missing Details

Return to the state registry’s enrolment or application-status facility and enter the identifier requested. The national FAQ says an enrolment number is sent to the supplied phone number; Farmer ID follows approval.

If land is missing or names differ between records, ask the state helpdesk or revenue office which record needs correction. The ministry acknowledges name mismatches and provides grievance routes. Keep the acknowledgement when seeking help.

Farmer ID approval and PM-KISAN payment status are separate checks. Use PM-KISAN’s official “Know Your Status” service for the latter.

FAQs

Is Farmer ID compulsory for every PM-KISAN beneficiary?

A 10 March 2026 parliamentary reply required it for new registrations in 19 participating states. That statement should not be treated as a universal cancellation notice.

Can tenant farmers apply for Farmer ID?

The ministry says states are taking steps to include tenants and actual cultivators under applicable rules. Ask your state agriculture office which identification route is available.

Does creating a Farmer ID guarantee a loan?

No. The government describes easier verification for bank credit as an intended benefit. Registration itself is not a loan sanction or a promise of financial assistance.

Will every farmer receive a printed Farmer ID card?

The national FAQ leaves printed cards to state governments. Confirm your state’s download or credential arrangements rather than assuming every approved registration produces a physical card.

Can someone register without owning a smartphone?

Yes. The ministry identifies Common Service Centres and block or tehsil government offices as support options for farmers without mobile phones who need access to digital services.
