NEET UG 2026 is not only about the question paper. For many students, the first test begins at the exam centre gate.
The National Testing Agency will conduct NEET UG 2026 on 3 May 2026 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in pen-and-paper mode. PwD/PwBD candidates eligible for compensatory time may write the exam up to 6 p.m. NTA has said the exam will be held across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad, at more than 5,432 centres, for nearly 22.79 lakh registered candidates.
That huge number means every student must plan entry, documents, dress, frisking, and biometric verification before leaving home.
NEET UG 2026 Reporting Time And Gate Closing Rule
NTA has fixed the reporting window from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The entry gate will close at 1:30 p.m. sharp, and no candidate will be allowed inside after that under any circumstance.
Students should not treat 1:30 p.m. as a target. It is the last line. A safer plan is to reach much earlier, especially if the centre is far, traffic is heavy, or the address is unfamiliar.
NTA has also warned students to check the exact centre address from the admit card. Map apps may show wrong pins for some centres, so the admit card address should be checked first.Â
NEET UG 2026 Dress Code Students Must Follow
NTA’s dress code advisory says light clothing is preferred. Candidates can wear full sleeves or woollens if needed, but they must report early enough for frisking.
The advisory also says students may wear articles or objects of faith, but they must report well in advance for checking. This applies to candidates wearing items such as hijab, turban, kada, religious threads, or other faith-based articles.
For footwear, NTA has said slippers and low heels are preferred. Heavy shoes, high heels, metallic accessories, jewellery, smart watches, wallets, bags, Bluetooth devices, calculators, and mobile phones should be avoided because they are not allowed inside the exam hall.

What Students Can Carry Inside The Centre
Every candidate should carry a printed admit card, one original valid photo ID, and two passport-size photographs for the attendance sheet. NTA has also allowed a transparent water bottle.
Diabetic candidates are allowed to carry sugar tablets and fruits such as banana, apple, or orange, along with a transparent water bottle, as per existing NTA guidelines. Food packets are not allowed for other candidates.
Students should read every line printed on the admit card before leaving home. Many exam-day mistakes happen because candidates rely on coaching forwards, old screenshots, or random social media posts instead of NTA notices.

Biometric Verification And Security Checks
NTA has placed a multi-layer security plan for NEET UG 2026. It includes CCTV surveillance, high-sensitivity metal detectors, Aadhaar-based biometric authentication, and real-time monitoring. More than 2 lakh personnel have been mobilised for the exam.
If biometric verification fails due to device malfunction, poor fingerprint quality, UIDAI connectivity issues, or physical inability, NTA has said the candidate will not be denied entry. The student will have to sign a written undertaking available at the centre, and manual identity verification will be done through valid documents.
This is another reason to reach early. A late arrival leaves no room for frisking, biometric delay, document check, or centre confusion.
Final Word For NEET UG 2026 Students
NEET UG 2026 candidates should keep the day simple. Wear light clothes, choose slippers or low heels, avoid accessories, carry only allowed documents, and reach the centre early.
The exam starts at 2 p.m., but the entry process starts much before that. A student who reaches the gate on time, follows the dress code, and carries the correct papers avoids needless pressure before the first question is even opened.
For official updates, candidates should check only the NEET UG 2026 portal and NTA website.
