That history leaves Kushare as only the third Indian man to win an Asian Games high-jump medal. It is also India’s fourth medal in the event overall. In other words, the country went from three medals between 1954 and 1970 to none across the next fourteen editions before Kushare finally returned to the podium. The Indian Olympic Association’s Bangkok 1970 records also list Bhim Singh’s bronze among India’s 25 medals at those Games.
The drought covered changing generations, training systems and championship cycles. Several Indian jumpers reached major international competitions during that span, but the Asian Games podium stayed out of reach. Kushare’s silver closes that gap while also putting a current national record-holder back among Asia’s medallists.
