Air Vice Marshal Shakti Sharma has made history as the first woman officer from a non-medical branch of India’s armed forces to attain a two-star rank. Promoted on September 1, 2026, she also assumed charge as Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Education) at Air Headquarters. Her achievement marks a significant milestone for women pursuing senior careers beyond the medical services.

The Centre has introduced two major Indian Coast Guard reforms, creating gender-neutral officer entry routes and speeding up ex-gratia compensation for families of personnel who go missing at sea. The policies were announced by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on July 28, 2026.
