How to Remove Holi Colors from Your Face Without Damaging Skin – 5 Skin-Friendly Hacks to Try!

Do not allow the damaging skin cleansers to spoil the fun and joy of celebrating Holi. Instead, opt for some gentle and natural methods of cleaning with no harm done.

Holi is celebrated with mirth, fun and colors. However, it becomes quite a challenge dealing with Holi colors that stick stubbornly to the skin afterward. People opt for severe soaps and vigorous scrubbing which may wash away the natural moisture of the skin and lead to skin irritation.

Do not allow the damaging skin cleansers to spoil the fun and joy of celebrating Holi. Instead, opt for some gentle and natural methods of cleaning with no harm done. Here are some safe ways of cleaning off Holi colors from the skin without stripping off the softness and healthiness of the skin.

  1. Use Natural Oils for Gentle Cleansing:

One of the best ways to break down Holi colors is by using natural oils. Coconut oil, olive oil or baby oil can help dissolve colors while nourishing the skin. Massage the oil onto your face and let it sit for about 10 to 15 minutes to loosen the pigments. Once the colors start dissolving, gently wipe them off with a cotton ball or rinse with lukewarm water using a mild cleanser. This method not only removes the colors but also keeps the skin hydrated and supple.

  1. Try Nourishing Homemade Face Packs:

Homemade face packs are excellent for removing Holi colors, soothing and nourishing the skin. The besan (gram flour) and curd pack is one such example which gently removes colors while keeping the skin soft and smooth. A multani mitti (Fuller’s earth) and rose water pack is an excellent option that soaks up extra colors along with extra oil. Another pack that can really aid in color removal is a mixture of aloe vera and honey which can help soothe sensitive skin as well.

  1. Milk and Honey Cleansing for a Hydrating Effect:

Raw milk acts as a natural cleanser gently lifting Holi colors from the skin without drying it out. Soaking a cotton ball in raw milk and wiping the face helps remove stains while honey provides nourishment. After cleansing, rinse with lukewarm water and apply a light moisturizer to maintain hydration. This method is particularly useful for people with dry or sensitive skin.

  1. Lemon and Honey Scrub for Stubborn Stains:

A mixture made of lemon and honey can be applied on stubborn stains as it will act as an excellent scrub. Lemon is known to have natural bleaching characteristics thereby lightening colored stains at the same time honey helps keep the skin moisturized. The mixture is of equal parts lemon juice and honey gently massaged over the discolored area. Leave it on for about five minutes before rinsing thoroughly. However, since it can have a drying effect, the use of a moisturizer to keep the skin from drying is recommended after the pack.

  1. Wash with Mild Soap and Lukewarm Water:

Ditch the harsh soaps and rough scrubbing because they tend to take away the natural oils of the skin. A mild sulfate cleanser and lukewarm water will wash off the residual colors on the skin. It’s important not to rub your skin with a towel after drying it instead, gently pat it dry and then use a hydrating moisturizer to restore the moisture and lipid layer of your skin.

Post-Holi Skin Care Tips:

Once the color is entirely washed out, skin care is equally important. Apply a good moisturizer or aloe vera gel to hydrate the skin and soothe any irritation that might arise. A cooling face mask made of yogurt and turmeric will help calm down any redness or sensitivity. Moreover, drinking water will help flush out the toxins giving your skin a flush from within. Refrain from facials, bleach or chemical treatments for at least a few days to allow the skin to recover from stress.
