Many LPG consumers in India are suddenly receiving messages about subsidy eligibility, income-tax records, and a seven-day response window. The warning has created panic because it directly talks about the annual income limit of Rs 10 lakh and the possibility of LPG subsidy being discontinued.
The rule itself is not new. The government’s larger aim has been to keep subsidised LPG support targeted toward households that need price support more. PMUY, or Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, remains the main welfare-linked LPG scheme. The official PMUY portal says the scheme has crossed 10.35 crore connections and provides cash assistance for eligible households, along with first refill and stove support.
