JEE Main 2027 Application Form: Required Documents, Photograph Rules, Fees and Common Mistakes to Avoid

One unclear passport photo or an unfinished payment can spoil an otherwise straightforward JEE application. With Session 1 registration now open, candidates need to pay attention to the uploads as much as the exam dates.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) opened the JEE Main 2027 application form on October 24, 2026. Its October 24 public notice sets November 22 as the regular deadline and allows late applications for four more days at an extra cost.

Key Highlights

  • Session 1 applications close on November 22, 2026, at 11:50 pm.
  • Late submissions run November 23–26 with an additional ₹500 fee.
  • You must submit both a live photograph and a scanned passport-size photo.
  • The correction window is scheduled for November 27–29.

JEE Main 2027 Registration Dates and Documents to Keep Ready

The first session takes place on January 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 28, 2027. City slips are scheduled for December 30, while admit cards are due on January 13. These dates appear in NTA’s official 2027 Information Bulletin.

Keep the following ready before opening the form:

  • Class 10 certificate or marksheet: Upload a legible PDF of 50–300 kB; use the record to confirm name and date of birth.
  • Recent photograph and signature: Both need separate JPG/JPEG files, alongside the live camera capture.
  • Identification and contact details: Have your identity document and a working mobile number and email accessible for registration and updates.
  • Applicable certificates: Disability/UDID documents, physical-limitation certificates, and a non-Indian passport for foreign nationals (including OCI holders) require PDFs of 50–300 kB, where applicable.

Keep Class 12 educational details nearby as well. NTA‘s registration route also supports MeriPehchaan, which connects with services such as DigiLocker.

Photograph and Signature Rules: File Size Is Not the Only Test

A file can fit the size limit and still fail the visual requirements. NTA wants a recent colour photo against a white background, with 80% of the face visible, ears included, and no mask.

UploadAccepted FormatSize
Passport-size photographJPG/JPEG10–200 kB
SignatureJPG/JPEG10–100 kB
Class 10 documentPDF50–300 kB
Disability/UDID certificate, if applicablePDF50–300 kB

The live-photo requirement is separate from uploading the saved photograph. Use a webcam or device camera during registration. Without one, the NTA form offers a QR-code route to capture the image on a phone or tablet.

Poor lighting, hidden ears, or a photograph that no longer resembles the Aadhaar image may create verification issues. NTA advises candidates to keep Aadhaar details and photographs updated.

JEE Main 2027 Application Fees by Category

For one paper at an examination centre in India, fees differ by category and gender:

CategoryFee
General male₹1,000
Gen-EWS/OBC-NCL male₹900
General/Gen-EWS/OBC-NCL female₹800
SC/ST/PwD/PwBD candidates₹500
Third gender₹500

Applying for multiple papers or selecting a centre outside India changes the amount. For example, a General-category male applying for combined papers at an Indian centre pays ₹2,000, not ₹1,000. Bank processing charges and applicable GST are extra.

A late submission adds ₹500 to the appropriate examination fee. Payment is online through credit card, debit card, net banking, or UPI.

Common JEE Main Form Mistakes That Need Attention

There is more risk in rushing the final screen than in taking another minute to review it.

  • Opening a second application: NTA expressly prohibits multiple forms. Keep the original application number, including for Session 2.
  • Assuming payment alone finishes registration: Save the confirmation page. If it is missing, first verify the transaction with the bank or payment gateway rather than paying repeatedly.
  • Entering inconsistent details: Names, birth dates, category information, and disability claims deserve a careful check against supporting records.
  • Relying on the correction window: November 27–29 is not a promise that every field can be edited. NTA will specify which entries are correctable.

For a successful submission, register on the official JEE Main portal, complete personal and academic details, select papers and cities, upload files, pay the fee, and download the confirmation page.

Apply through the official NTA portal before November 22, rather than depending on the ₹500 late window. For form problems, NTA lists 011-40759000 and [email protected].
