A rare rotating water column was spotted over the Brahmaputra near Paharpur in Assam’s Barpeta district on August 24, 2026. The funnel appeared to connect the river surface with the cloud base, leading to speculation that it was a waterspout. While the footage is consistent with a waterspout, a formal meteorological classification has not yet been confirmed.

India and Myanmar are discussing unsettled stretches of their Manipur boundary, but the Centre has not confirmed that any land exchange has been approved. Local groups are demanding clarity and consultation.
