Train travel through Pune enters a difficult fortnight from Saturday, September 19, as Central Railway begins a 15-day infrastructure block at Pune and Hadapsar yards. The work, scheduled through October 4, is linked to commissioning the third railway line between Hadapsar and the Ghorpadi Coach Maintenance Complex.
The disruption is wider than a routine weekend block. According to Central Railway’s announced train changes reported by The Indian Express, 42 trains are listed for cancellation on different dates and 25 for diversion. Several others will start or end at stations such as Khadki, Daund, Solapur, Kurduwadi, Jejuri and Satara.

Why Is Pune Railway Taking A 15-Day Block?
Central Railway is carrying out pre-non-interlocking and non-interlocking work needed to bring the new Hadapsar-Ghorpadi third line into operation. Engineering teams will also work on signalling, telecommunication systems and overhead electrical equipment at Pune and Hadapsar yards.
The project is part of railway capacity expansion around Pune. A Ministry of Railways update on Pune railway capacity projects earlier this year listed the Hadapsar-Ghorpuri third line among works being taken up to increase train-handling capacity. The ministry said about 33 Mail and Express trains currently originate in the Pune area each day.
Different railway lines will become unavailable during different stages of the work. That explains why the passenger impact changes almost daily. A service may be fully cancelled on one date, diverted on another, or made to start or finish before its normal station.
South Central Railway also posted passenger information about the Pune and Hadapsar non-interlocking work on its official X account, covering diversions, short terminations, rescheduling and regulation of affected trains.
Which Trains Are Cancelled From September 19?
The first major cancellation hits Pune-Solapur passengers. Train 12169 Pune-Solapur Intercity Superfast Express and train 12170 Solapur-Pune Intercity Superfast Express will not run from September 19 through September 23. Both are cancelled again on October 3 and 4.
Later in the block, more prominent services disappear from the timetable. Nagpur-Pune Express 12114 is cancelled on October 2, Pune-Nagpur Express 12113 on October 3, while trains 12136 and 12135 on the Nagpur-Pune route are cancelled on October 3 and 4 respectively.
October 4 brings another sizeable batch. CSMT-Pune and Pune-CSMT trains 22105 and 22106, Indrayani Express services 12127 and 12128, Pune-Solapur Hutatma Express 12157, Solapur-Pune Hutatma Express 12158, and Pune-Sainagar Shirdi services 11423/11424 are among those cancelled.
Local passengers are affected too. Pune-Lonavala suburban trains 99812, 99818, 99813, 99820 and 99821 are cancelled on October 4. Pune-Daund and Baramati-linked DEMU trains also face cancellations or shortened journeys.
Which Trains Are Diverted Or Rescheduled?
Diversions could cause greater confusion because a train may still operate while skipping stations from its usual route. Pune-Howrah Express 12221 is diverted on September 19 and October 3 through Lonavala, Karjat, Panvel, Kalyan, Igatpuri and Manmad.
Train 22159 CSMT-MGR Chennai Central Express is diverted from September 19 to 23 and again on October 4 via Kalyan, Igatpuri, Manmad and Daund, bypassing Pune. Pune-Nagpur Express 12135 is diverted on September 20, while Pune-Banaras Express 22131 takes a changed route on September 21.
Boarding points change for several passengers as well. Jodhpur-Hadapsar Express 20495 terminates at Khadki on selected dates, while 20496 originates from Khadki. Kazipet-Hadapsar Express 17014 ends at Daund on several dates and at Kurduwadi on October 3.
The Hutatma Express 12157 has a revised Pune departure today. It leaves at 6:20 pm instead of 5:50 pm on September 19, followed by 6:10 pm departures on September 21 and 22.
